Food Once again what kind of food you ate in Elizabethan England depended on your class. The poor ate things like bread, fish, cheese and ale, if they were lucky. But the upper class had much more of a variety compared to the poor. Such as lamb, beef, pork, bacon, veal, rabbit, peacock, swan, goose, blackbirds and pigeon. This is only the meats! Music To the people who lived in the Elizabethan Era music was an important part of their entertainment. It was used in many and most poems. Elizabethan instruments where performed by musicians and simple chants and ballads would be sung by the villagers. Sports There were many different sports played and watched by the public to keep them entertained for hours on end. Some of the sports include fencing tournaments, gambling, bear and bull baiting and hunting. These are just a few of many but by the sounds of things this era based some of its 'fun' on being cruel. Transportation Transportation in the Elizabethan Era was very basic all it consisted of was hooves, wheels and feet as there was no such thing as motors just yet. The poor got around mostly on foot, but the rich where pulled in carriages by noble steeds. Queen Elizabeth I I've saved the best for last! Second daughter of King Henry VIII during his second marriage to Anne Boleyn, who was executed two and a half years after Elizabeth's birth for not giving birth to a male heir. Elizabeth ruled for 44 years from 17 November 1558 until her death on 24 March 1603. She was the successor of Queen Mary I and King Phillip. | Everyday Life Everyday life in Elizabethan England depended on where you lived or how wealthy you were. For instance if you where poor and lived in a dirt poor village you would most likely be working in the fields harvesting the crops. But if you were wealthy and lived in a house you would have an upper class job like a lawyer or doctor. Fashion The varieties of clothing range from the type of class of which you are. For example the upper class have expensive, beautiful materials with elegant and endless styles compared to the clothes worn by the lower classes only using basic materials. Theatre When someone says Elizabethan Era theatre I immediately think of 'The King Of Shadows', William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare in my opinion is the great face of theatre and all it's excellence. One of the most well know facts about the Elizabethan theatre is only men where allowed to be in these performances and young boys were used to play the women. Architecture The architecture and design of Elizabethan Era houses are stunning and beautiful structures that to this day still stand tall with their original materials. This goes to show that the Elizabethan Era had very good architects and builders that built houses meant to last. Forms Of Torture And Crimes The forms of torture in the Elizabethan era were endless some of the worst, in my opinion, are hanging, beheading, drawn and quartered and the iron maiden. These are just a few of many forms of punishment for crimes like spying, witchcraft and blasphemy. |
